Damn Delicious Author Shares Her 5 Essential Tools for Meal Prep

April 04, 2019

Ready to become a meal prep master? Chungah Rhee of Damn Delicious is here to help you out. The food blogger, photographer, and stylist just came out with her second cookbook, Damn Delicious Meal Prep: 115 Easy Recipes for Low-Calorie, High-Energy Living ?and as you might have guessed, it's all about the art of meal prep. Outside of the gorgeous recipes, the book helps you strategize around meal prep, including the kitchen tools that make things a little easier. Today Chungah is sharing her top five essential meal prep tools to get you started.

1. Meal prep containers

Control your portions by using meal prep containers! Plastic or glass meal prep containers are typically BPA-free, airtight, leak-resistant and dishwasher safe. Plastic containers are beneficial if you’re constantly on-the-go as they are much lighter and disposable but glass containers last much longer, and they’re more friendly for the environment!

2. Glass jars

Similar to meal prep containers, Mason jars will also come in super handy for meal prepping. They come in a variety of sizes and are perfect for storing dressings, sauces, marinades, smoothies, prepped vegetables, etc.

3. Food processor

Instead of dicing and chopping 10,000 pounds of vegetables and garlic with sticky fingers, your food processor will do all the work for you. With clean fingers, of course!

4. Storage freezer bags

Another indispensable meal prep tool is freezer bags, great for storing soups in the freezer! You can simply portion the soup into freezer bags in individual servings, laying the bags flat in a single layer in the freezer (this will help them freeze quickly). You can then stack them once they are frozen to save on storage space. Just be sure to squeeze out all the excess air as best as you can to prevent freezer burn and dehydration.

5. Slow cooker

A slow cooker will become your best friend, especially with minimal-prep recipes where they can cook low and slow. During that time, you can clean up the kitchen, do a load of laundry, or go for a quick workout!
